Chiropractic for Pregnancy and Childbirth
A woman’s body goes through incredible biomechanical changes during pregnancy, labor and childbirth, including weight gain of course, a shift in center of gravity, posture and walking pattern changes, loosening of lumbopelvic ligaments and hormonal and mood shifts.
Therefore, it is considered normal for most women to experience low back and pelvic pain. But what most women and obstetric providers do not know is that these conditions can be managed and improved with chiropractic.
Furthermore, chiropractic care during pregnancy can help alleviate some of the stresses of labor and better prepare mom for the big day.
Chiropractic for Newborns and Children
Chiropractic assessments on newborns is both safe and effective and can begin right away.
Birthing can put tremendous stress on an infant’s spine and developing nerve system, especially if any complications occurred. Resulting spinal and cranial misalignment can cause many health issues in newborns, including colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections.
A 2012 study of colicky babies found daily crying time decreased by 48 percent in those babies who received chiropractic care compared to 18 percent in babies who received no chiropractic treatment. Other results for the babies receiving chiropractic was improved sleeping, improved behavior and attitude and improved immune system function.
Minor spinal misalignments (subluxations) can occur any time a baby takes a bump or fall. These minor falls can have a cumulative effect as they grow and develop and take on more rough and tumble activities like skating, riding a bike, jumping on a trampoline and other backyard activities and organized sports.
Some of these early issues can stay with us and worsen all the way into adulthood. And that’s why Chiropractic should be a wellness companion for all children as they develop not only their bodies, but their overall vitality and immunity.
